Bayer CropScience has acquired a soy germplasm bank from Brazilian company Meihoramento Agropastoril (Cascavel) and agreed deals with two other soybean businesses in the country. The company has agreed to acquire the soybean seed company, Wehrtec, and the soybean business of Agricola Wehrmann (both Cristalina). The moves will enable Bayer to increase its soybean research and breeding tailored to the needs of Brazilian soybean growers, the company says. They also complement the acquisition of SoyTech in 2011 (Agrow No 620, p 2), it adds.
