Though quality management programs are aimed at achieving business excellence at organizational level and there are other benefits such programs can render to the organization. In this article, it is proposed to revise and develop new arguments in favor of such benefits of implementing quality management programs for organizational innovation, more specifically, for administrative innovation. In this regard, it is shown that quality management and administrative innovation perform a fundamental role as combined alternatives in the management of firms. The factors that determine the administrative innovation gap and the repercussions of quality management implementation for these relationships and for the capacity to adapt to the environment through innovation are analyzed. In this regard, several hypotheses are proposed. In order to test these hypotheses, data are collected from a set of randomly selected firms from the Duns and Bradstreet database, which includes the largest companies operating in Spain. The structural equations modeling is then used to perform the analyses. It is observed from the outcome of the study that the factors determining the quality management and administrative innovation have repercussions for firms' capacity to adapt to their environment. It is further observed that while innovation and quality management alone do not possess the qualities required to provide organizations with sustainable competitive advantages, the bundle of innovation and quality management together with other resources and competences only can allow organizations to obtain a competitive advantage and adapt to their environment.
