An Italian MP has introduced draft legislation in Parliament to limit the use of pesticides in the country by 2013. Francesco Ferrante of the opposition centre-left Democrat Party submitted a bill to the upper house Senate. Mr Ferrante says the bill meets the "spirit of recent EU Directives, requiring member states to adopt plans for the sustainable use of pesticides". The EU sustainable use of pesticides Directive (2009/128) came into force in November last year (Agrow No 581, p 8). It brings together measures including adoption of IPM, and "minimising" use in certain public areas, such as parks and schools.
