France has extended the approval for Syngenta's seed treatment insecticide, Cruiser (thiamethoxam), for the 2009 maize sowing season. The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Michel Barnier, granted the extension after receiving favourable opinion from the French food safety agency, the AFSSA, which is responsible for risk assessment. The approval, valid until May 15th 2009, has been granted for the use of Cruiser as a seed treatment against wireworms (Agriotes spp), under "strictly regulated" conditions of manufacture and use.
