The UK Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD) has launched a 12-week public consultation seeking views on how the UK should implement the new EU Directive on the sustainable use of pesticides (2009/128). It is also looking for methods to apply some provisions in the new EU agrochemical registration Regulation (1107/2009) that may need to be implemented by domestic legislation. The Regulation came into force in December and will be applied in EU member states from June 14th 2011, when it will replace the existing registration Directive (91/414- AgrowHo 581, p 8). The sustainable use Directive came into force in November and member states have until November 25th 2011 to transpose it into national law (Agrow ibid). The CRD is carrying out the consultation on behalf of the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
