The UK government could support the commercialisation of genetically modified crops following advice from the Advisory Committee on Releases to the Environment(ACRE)and from English Nature.The advice is based on the results of farm-scale evaluations(FSEs),which were published in October 2003(Agrow No 435,pp 12-13).The ACRE says that if GM herbicide-tolerant maize was grown and managed under the same conditions as in the FSEs then its cultivation would not result in adverse environmental effects.
