A former Dow AgroSciences employee has pleaded guilty in a US court to charges of economic espionage and the theft of trade secrets. Chinese national Kexue Huang entered the plea at the US District Court for the Southern District of Indiana last month.Mr Huang admitted misappropriating and transporting trade secrets to China while working at Dow. He first appeared in court over the charges in August 2010 (Agrow No 599, p 12). They covered the disclosure of confidential information about Dow's development of spinosyn-based insecticides and its proprietary fermentation process. Mr Huang admitted seeking to develop and produce the misappropriated trade secrets in China, including identifying manufacturing facilities there to allow him to compete directly with Dow in the pesticide market.
