Despite the concept having existed for decades, armed UGVs have never found a place in the arsenals of the world's armies. However, the age of the combatant robot may finally be approaching. UGVs have been a part of militaries for decades, playing a pivotal role in EOD and the neutralisation of IEDs. However, integrating weapons onto UGVs to provide an offensive capability has been fraught with difficulties and has never truly been adopted, despite the concept itself dating back to World War II.
