Syngenta's sales fell by 5% to 2,707 million in the first quarter of 2006.A strong dollar impacted negatively on the figures,with sales just I % lower at constant exchange rates(CER).Crop protection sales fell by 3% to 1,872 million but rose by I % at CER.A late start to the season in Europe impacted on the sector's performance,the company says.Europe and the Middle East is the company's largest market,accounting for almost 40% of crop protection sales.Trade in the region fell by 9% to 744 million against a rise of 6% in the same period last year,when the company also reported a late start to the season(Agrow No 471,p 4).
