The European Parliament has backed European Commission proposals to impose criminal penalties on infringements of intellectual property rights (IPR).The European Crop Protection Association (ECPA) has welcomed the proposals.When adopted,the directive will oblige EU member states to regard any intentional IPR infringement on a commercial scale as a criminal offence.It will be the first EU directive aimed at harmonising national criminal law.
