The US California EPA's Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) proposes to tighten restrictions on the use of the soil fumigants,metam-sodium and metam-potassium.The DPR wants to prevent drift incidents because of concerns that the metam breakdown product,methyl isocyanate,causes eye and respiratory irritation after brief exposure at low levels.Several major drift incidents have been associated with these fumigants in recent years,the DPR points out.
