The Arctic Council has examined over 2,100 tonnes of old pesticides,between 2004 and 2006,in a bid to prevent these pesticides from polluting the region.The Council,a regional forum for sustainable development,launched the programme in 2001 to treat and safeguard obsolete pesticide stocks,most of which are in Russia.Finland acts as co-ordinator of the joint project.
