The US EPA has reached an 877,500 settlement with DuPont and its former generic pesticide business,Griffin(Valdosta,Georgia),over regulatory violations for the ethephon-based plant growth regulators,SuperBoll and CottonQuik.The violations date from 1996 when Griffin began importing ethephon from an unapproved manufacturing facility in China,the EPA points out.DuPont and Griffin formed a joint venture in 1998 and DuPont acquired Griffin outright in 2003(Agrow Ho 436,p 2).Griffin and DuPont continued the practice of importing ethephon from the unapproved source,the EPA says.
