JSW Steel is planning to begin extraction from coking coal mines it owns, but has never operated, in WestVirginia. The Indian company is also considering re-opening an iron ore mine in Chile, South America.The metallurgical coal mines were acquired from a string of US-based companies in 2010, but could not bedeveloped due to the fall in coal prices following the global financial crisis and subsequent economicslowdown. JSW Steel has nine coking coal mines with cumulative resources of 123 Mt in West Virginia.
