摘要

EDITOR: adherence is an essential component of a suc-cessful drug regimen. Simplification of a therapeutic regimen with once-daily treatment options is an important strategy to improve or sustain adherence to treatment. An extended release 400 mg tablet formulation of the nonnucle-oside reverse transcriptase inhibitor nevirapine has been developed to offer the potential benefit of once-daily highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) to HIV-1-positive patients. The double-blind 48-week VERxVE trial with a total of over 1000 patients confirmed the noninferior virologic efficacy of the nevirapine 400 mg extended release once-daily regimen as compared to the standard immediate release 200 mg twice-daily regimen of nevirapine. The extended release formulation also demonstrated minimal peak-to-trough fluctuations in plasma nevirapine levels.
