A ceremony was held in July in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, where Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk praised the first-stage completion of the Pak-China Optical Fiber Cable, which saw the laying of an 820-km-long optical cable supplied by China's Huawei. Represented at the occasion were officials from Pakistan's Special Communication Organization (SCO) - a public sector organization operated by Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and maintained by the Pakistan Army - that will operate and maintain the fiber optic cable. Also in attendance were Chinese Ambassador Yao Jin and Huawei Middle East Region President Charles Yang.
