President Donald Trump sent a clear message during a summit of 11 Central and European countries, the Three Seas Initiative, in Poland last week: The US is ready to go head-to-head with Russia in the lucrative European gas market, where Moscow dominates with a 34% share (WGI Jul.5'17). Eastern Europe will "never again be hostage to a single supplier of energy," he said, and the US is ready to sell energy due to its shale gas bounty. Trump urged the region to build up its energy infrastructure, specifically mentioning the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector and Croatia's planned floating Krk LNG terminal, which Washington is targeting to help distribute its gas.
