Manufacturers are offering grounds professionals better models to tackle the most challenging mowing conditions, writes Sally Drury.Ride-on mowers keep evolving as manufacturers develop new machines to tackle challenging mowing conditions—big open space, long grass, sites cluttered with obstacles, limited access areas, slopes and embankments—while remaining productive and efficient.For large-scale commercial mowing, John Deere has improved its 1600 Turbo WAM out-front rotary mower. Now the Series III version is fitted with a high-torque 60hp turbo-charged Yanmar, Stage 5, diesel engine, equipped with electronic control and a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system for lower emissions and improved responsiveness.
