摘要

In New York they have a hugely successful business improvement district (BID) park, renovated, managed and maintained by a not-for-profit company that shares management with the 34th Street Partnership BID.Bryant Park in central Manhattan suffered severe decline in the 1970s. Local businessmen Daniel A Biederman and Andrew Heiskell established Bryant Park Corporation with support from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund to restore it. They signed a 15-year agreement with the city in 1988 and reopened it in 1991 with a budget six times that of the park under city management. Now it is visited by more than six million people each year and is one of the busiest public spaces in the world. This is just one of the areas UK BIDs are interested in exploring, says Simon Quin, interim director of newly formed BID membership organisation the BID Foundation, which has been established to promote and support BIDs, provide a forum to share experience and learnings and communicate more eEectively.
