In the June 2013 editorial we discussed education and monitoring of our vast (1917) reviewer pool. In addition, we must address our education efforts to provide the necessary indoctrination and training required to become a consistently excellent reviewer for the American Journal of Roentgenology. The success of the entire peer review process depends upon excellent reviews and the appropriate interaction of all involved in the publication process. We are about to complete our 1-year reviewer mentoring pilot. Thus far, our approach in the pilot has resulted in significant improvement in the reviews accomplished by our volunteers. Our pilot involved six different institutions, including some in the United Kingdom. Although this process has been successful, we are still not convinced that mentoring can be expanded to effectively reach our national and international reviewers. While we await this decision, we must do more and begin immediately.
