James S, Gordon: Watching the flooding and watching what was happening to the population there was like watching a member of the family going through a crisis. I had the feeling that I needed to be there to help. We've been working with people in the Balkans. We've been working in the Middle East. We were working with firefighters after 9/11 in New York City, and here was the largest catastrophe, perhaps ever -certainly in my life in the United States-and the question really was, how could we not be there, given what we've learned and what we've been able to do to help other populations that have been traumatized?
