Health care professionals become awakened to the benefits of integrative medicine in varied and unexpected ways. In the case of Donald W. Novey, M.D., it resulted from "hanging out with the wrong crowd. Since medical school, I've tended to affiliate with folks involved in natural medicine." His "a-ha" moment came during his third year in medical school, when he had the opportunity to work with a naturopathic physician. For Dr. Novey, it was a profound learning experience. "It really turned my head around in terms of understanding this stuff," he recalls. Today, Dr. Novey's head continues to turn when it comes to integrative medicine; only now, he gets to turn others' heads when it comes to treating patients and educating medical professionals in complementary and alternative therapies.
