Q:There are many claims, in terms of health benefits, for exotic fruits, such as acai, noni, and mangosteen. Is there evidence that supports these health claims, and, from a health standpoint, are these fruits and fruit products worth what people are paying for them? Dr. Low Dog: There is no question that fruits and berries have therapeutic benefits for the human body. That is why we recommend seven to nine servings of fruits and vegetables every day. One of the fruits getting a lot of attention right now is the Brazilian berry Euterpe oleracea (acai; pronounced ah-sah-ee). It is a rich source of antioxidants, producing more antioxidant activity than grapes or wine.
