One of the best known properties of nickel alloys, which include high chromium, is superior corrosion resistance. Nickel based brazing filler metal alloys are widely used where the corrosion and high temperature resistance is important. These properties can be improved by addition of various elements. In this study, effects of some additive elements such as vanadium and molybdenum within NiCrPBSi filler metal alloys used in the production of heat exchangers, catalytic converters, and exhaust gas recirculation systems, are investigated. The alloys are brazed to 304 stainless steel plates by continuous furnace at hydrogen atmosphere. The prepared samples are evaluated in different acid solutions according to VDA 230-214 test method. Microstructure of samples after the test are inspected and microscopic images are compared regarding corrosion resistance.
