Nowadays, CO_2 refrigerant seems to be the most plausible long-term solution for many refrigeration applications. However, especially in warm climate regions, the energy efficiency of typical booster solutions may not look attractive compared with that of other systems. To overcome this, new technical solutions have been available since 2013. A very interesting installation featuring such improvements has been installed in a Carrefour hypermarket located in Italy. The system is powered by Dorin CO_2 compressors, and has been operating very successfully since 2015, fulfilling the energy requirements of the entire building: 340 kW medium-temperature duty, 66 kW low-temperature duty, heat recovery for sanitary hot water and ambient heating, and cooling of an air conditioning module. The system is using liquid/vapor ejectors and a parallel compression module.
