My interest in incorporating art therapy to the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) model started in 2010. At the time, I was an art therapist working at a social service agency that decided to train our clinical programme to implement the DBT model to better serve our challenging population that included dysregulated youth and their birth and/or foster parents. Being an art therapist, as I got trained in the model, I enthusiastically kept thinking how I could link this new knowledge to be able to make it applicable to my practice.
