Osmolal and water clearances in dromedary camels during hot and cold ambience

The effect of dehydration and rehydration on osmolal clearance and solute free water clearance was observed in eight apparently healthy adult female dromedary camels during winter and summer seasons. The mean values of osmolal clearance and solute free water clearance were significantly (p0.05 pound) higher during winter than summer in control phase. As the dehydration advanced the mean values decreased significantly (p0.05 pound) than control in both the seasons On rehydration the mean values gradually increased but differed significantly even on hour 96 of rehydration in both the seasons. The osmolal clearance indicated that 27.241 +- 1.703 ml (winter) and 16.533 +- 0 961 ml (summer) of plasma were cleared of solute per minute in the control phase. This was the volume of plasma water in which the excreted solute would had to be dissolved in order to be isoosmotic with plasma. The ratio of solute free water reabsorption and GFR reflected the percentage of glomerular filtrate which was reabsorbedas solute free water. During winter 3.371 +- 0.459 percent and during summer 2.988 +- 0.363 percent of glomerular filtrate was reabsorbed as solute free water during control phase.
