Noncompaction of the left ventricle is a rare congenital cardiomyopathy characterized by prematurely arrested compaction of the endocardial and myocardial fibers resulting in impaired systolic and diastolic ventricular function. Nontransplant surgical treatment is lacking and limited to correction of accompanied valve problems or arrhythmias.
