We appreciate the opportunity to respond to the comments of Gagnon and Guta regarding our article on community viral load (CVL). The authors of the letter acknowledge that CVL is a relatively new measure, but recognize that the ultimate goal is to use CVL data to target interventions to particular populations and geographic areas. Although they express this broad understanding of the utility of CVL, they raise several issues regarding the use of surveillance data and approaches to the geospatial analysis of CVL used in our article.
