摘要

Modification of jute fibre through etherification with stearamidomethyl Pyridinium chloride (SMPC) was studied in considerable details. It was found that the maximum of 3.08% etherification resulted when the jute fibre, impregnated with 8% SMPC by weight of jute and containing 180% moisture, was heated at 12 deg C for 30 minutes in the presence of a catalyst, sodium acetate, used in amounts equimolar to SMPC.
