Temperature and electric field-responsive liposomes were prepared by decorating the liposomal surface with poly(hydroxyethyl acrylate-co-hexadecyl acrylate-co-carboxyethyl acrylate) (P(HEA-HDA-CEA)). Only the liposome incorporating the copolymer having lower critical solution temperature released their content in a temperature-responsive manner. Only the liposomes incorporating the copolymers having CEA released their content in an electric-responsive manner. For example, the release degree in 40 min of calcein loaded in the liposome incorporating the copolymer whose HEA/HDA/CEA molar ratio was 100/0.5/5.2 was 2.5%, 11.7%, 19.9%, and 363%, respectively, when the voltage of 0 V,1.5 V, 3.0 V, and 4.5 V was applied.
