Power consumption of a processor depends on several factors. Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) is a proven method for energy saving. In this paper, we propose Dynamic Cache Reconfiguration (DCR) using runtime observation of cache parameters to further improve the energy efficiency.Our work shows that merging Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) and DCR can minimize the overall system energy consumption. This methodology produces potentially the lowest power consumption in a multi-tasking system. Additionally, we develop a leakage aware scheduling algorithm to reduce the leakagepower by considering the temperature dependency of leakage. Simulation results show reduction of energy dissipation up to 10% compared to other techniques. The results also indicate that for lower set associativity and higher task generation, the proposed approaches have better performance.Power and performance benefits are demonstrated in a real life system with thousands of tasks being generated.
