Measurements in building acoustics are as any other measurement prone to uncertainties. These uncertainties can't be determined easily because there is no model that links the uncertainty of the measurand to the real measurement situation. Therefore, standard deviations derived from interlaboratory tests are used to estimate the standard uncertainties. Tests with different types of specimens are analysed. Different types of standard deviations are distinguished, namely the standard deviation of reproduciblility, the in-situ standard deviation and the standard deviation of repeatability. The calculation is performed for the one-third octave band values and for the single number ratings. The effect of different frequency ranges on the uncertainty of the single number ratings is also investigated. The behaviour of different types of test specimens is found to be similar, in general, even though some types of test specimens show slightly larger or smaller uncertainties than the average in some frequency ranges. Finally, average values are derived which are standardised in ISO 12999-1. Further parts of this investigation will cover impact noise, installation noise and absorption measurements.
