A Novel Method for Estimating the Dynamic Fracture Toughness of Austenitic Stainless Steel

摘要

Charpy impact tests are conducted at -196 degrees C for S30408 austenitic stainless steel. The results show that the fracture mechanism of the material is ductile fracture at this low temperature. Crack initiation points of the Charpy specimens are obtained by using compliance rate method. It is revealed that the crack initiation points appear before the maximum load points. The dynamic crack growth resistance curves (J-R curves) of material are calculated by using Schindler method and key curve method, respectively, from the load displacement curves obtained by the tests. The results are compared and analyzed.
