摘要

The International Biotechnology Symposium (IBS) is organized under the auspices of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), with a history dated back to 1960 when it was first held in Rome (Italy). Currently, the IBS series is recognized as the premier and largest international conference in the biotech field. The 13th International Biotechnology Symposium (IBS-2008), which was held from October 12th to 17th 2008 in Dalian, a beautiful coastal city in Northeast China, attracted about 2000 participants from about 80 countries and regions, including 1100 international attendees. The IBS-2008 is the first IBS held in China.
