One of the biggest challenges today in bringing research results to the nursery industry is the limited financial and technical resources to do the job. There is neither one great source of funding that we can tap into to support the effort, nor is there one research institution that has all the research capacity. And therein lies the rub. The resulting divisions of both money sources and technical expertise have traditionally resulted in a fragmented and sometimes duplicated approach in addressing the research needs of the nursery industry. The paradox is that the strength this diversity brings to the research system also contributes to inefficiencies in getting the job done and the results delivered on a timely basis.
