摘要

Desmodium (Leguminosae/Fabaceae tribe Desmodieae) is polyphyletic and has been reclassified to monophyletic genera based on recent molecular phylogenetic analyses along with morphological and palynological studies. In this paper, we attempt to place the species of Desmodium from Africa, Madagascar and the Mascarene Islands within the current systematic treatment. A comparison list of the tribe Desmodieae between previous systems and the current phylogenetic system for each of the regions is provided.Alist of genera is supplied, demonstrating poorer diversity of Desmodieae in Africa than in Asia. Africa has about one-third as many genera of Desmodieae as genera of Desmodieae as are found in Asian regions. Alist of the Desmodieae of Sri Lanka is alsopresented for comparison with Africa and Madagascar. Five species and two varieties previously treated in Desmodium are corrected to Grona or Pleurolobus based on their synapomorphic characteristics.
