An Updated Phylogeny of Leptopetalum (Rubiaceae) and Taxonomic Treatment of Herbaceous Species in East Asia

摘要

The phylogenetic relationships among the species of Leptopetalum {Rubiaceae) were updated by collecting new samples throughout their distributional range. The obtained phylogenetic tree indicated that four shrubby species were monophyletic but nestedamong herbaceous species. In the herbaceous species, several clades were detected. Neither of two species, L. biflorum (L.) Neupane & N. Wikstr. and L, strigulosum (DC.) Neupane & N. Wikstr., which were identified based on the current classification, wasmonophyletic. Based on aliterature review and examination of type specimens, as well as morphological comparison, L. sttigulosum is widely distributed in the Pacific islands but not in East Asia. In East Asia, three herbaceous species are tentatively recognized in the present study, and two new combinations, L. coreanum (H. Lev.) Naiki & Ohi-Toma, and L. coreanum van luxurians (Hatus.) Naiki & Ohi-Toma are proposed. In addition, the lectotype of Hedyotis biflora var. parvifolia, which was treated as asynonym of L. coreanum var. coreanum, is designated. In East Asia, L, coreanum is distributed along the coastal region and L. taiwanense (S. F. Huang & J. Murata) Shih H. Chen & M. J. Wu is found in limited areas of Taiwan. On the other hand, L. biflorumapparently contains a few entities from the present morphological and phylogenetic view points, so that several taxonomic problems remain to be solved in the revision of L. biflorum.
