摘要

Cankerworm larvae feed on a wide variety of hardwood tree foliage, such as apple, ash, red and white oaks, maple, elm, cherry, linden and honey locust. Both fall cankerworms (Alsophila pometaria) and spring cankerworms (Paleacrita vernata) are nativeto deciduous trees in North American forests. Insect outbreaks are periodic and often concentrated in urban areas or near deciduous woodlands, causing complete defoliation of trees in early spring. Typically, cankerworm damage is noticeable for two to three years followed by a decline.
