摘要

The ark shell, Scapharca broughtonii, which-has haemoglobin in their haemolymph, is an important commercial bivalves in Japan. Salinity tolerance of ark shell (mean shell length; 29 mm) was examined at various salinities (0-33 PSU), and the specific gravity of the haemolymph of the ark shell reared in various salinity were measured. Further the gilt cilia movement rates of ark shell were measured by immersing dissected gill pieces in various salinities. The ark shell could tolerate salinities of more than 20 PSU. There is a positive correlation between the specific gravity of ark shell haemolymph and the specific gravity of ambient sea water (20-35 PSU, r = 0.99). Gill cilia movement rate decreased with decreasing ambient sea water salinity.
