In air oxidation of the compositional materials of eutectic type with Si/C = 0.45-16.04 obtained in high energy system Mo - Si - C - Al is studied. It is shown that the sample behavior upon oxidation depends on the value of Si/C ratio. The samples having Si/C =4.17-16.04 exhibit high stability in mass upon long term high-temperature oxidation (to 1650 K and exposition about 500 h). Using Auger-spectropetry we have shown that Si02 film formed on the sample surface is porous. It is considered that at different stages of oxidation an increase or decrease in the sample mass take place. Thus, within the certain range of Si/C ratio the long term stability of the composition materials in mass after high-temperature oxidation results from cross compensation of the opposite processes.
