BY THEIR THIRD DAY IN UVEITIS CLINIC, THE RESI-dents are sick of hearing me explain to patients that their disease is idiopathic; that is, we are a bunch of idiots who cannot figure out their pathology. Despite large and expensive laboratory examinations, most of the time we do not find the genesis of the patient's inflammation. Even when we find positive results on laboratory testing (such as human leukocyte antigen [HLA] B27 positivity), this allow us to put a name on the uveitic syndrome but does not give us much real insight into the pathogenesis of the inflammation#
