摘要

Three branch libraries at Washington State University/Pullman got a reprieve in June when university officials determined that the library could meet its mandated 3% budget reduction in other ways. The original proposal, worked out in May by former Director Nancy Baker, called for closing the Fischer Agricultural Sciences Library, the Brain Education Library, and the Architecture Library, and consolidating their collections with other campus collections. The plan was not acceptable to some staff, students, and faculty, who formed an informal committee calling itself Save Our University Library (SOUL) and launched a campaign to convince incoming President V. Lane Rawlins and other administrators that the closings and other cuts would affect the level of service the library could provide. As it turned out, keeping the branches open would have fallen
