The Inner Mongolia Tongliao government has announced the development status for the expansion project ofthe Inner Mongolia Jinlian aluminium smelter. The second stage expansion of Hangzhou Jinjiang Group'ssmelter has finished construction work, with reduction cells of 250ktpa capacity installed. Previous advice wasthat 50ktpa would be started in October to increase the operating production level from the estimated 830ktpa.Further installations are occurring, with AME expecting over 1.4Mtpa capacity in the first half of 2017. Atpresent, the smelter has spent CNY5.1bn (US$750m) on the project, with the fully realised smelter baseplanned to have a cost of around CNY34.3bn (US$5bn), if a previous figure of 3Mtpa aluminium is realised.
