Currently ranked as the seventh largest producer of primarily aluminium in the world, Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (Dubai) has come a long way since its inception in 1979. At launch - and for the first tour years of operation - the plant comprised a total of 360 cells in three potlincs and boasted an annual production capacity of 135kt. Following a series of six successive expansion projects, accompanied by advances in technology, Dubai will have a total of 1557 cells in its eight potlines by the end of the first quarter of 2008, collectively providing a hot metal production capacity of approximately 945kt/y. The company's finished product output has grown equally exponentially The 922.982kt of cast aluminium produced in 2006 represented cumulative growth of 2398 percent since 1979, when the fledgling company's total casthouse production amounted to just 36.950kt. Moreover, Dubai produced its 10th millionth metric tonne of high quality finished aluminium products in October 2007, effectively doubling the company's finished product yield since 2001, when the cumulative total amounted to 5.5Mt.
