We wish to report an unusual and unforeseen complication of tracheal intubation using a laryngoscope with a McCoy style blade. We experienced a case in which a McCoy style blade entrapped a uvula during removal of the laryngoscope. Subsequent examination of the laryngoscope blade (Callisto Eclipse; Time-sco of London Ltd, Basildon, Essex, UK) revealed that during depression of the lever, a defect appears (Figs 4a and 4b), which is capable of trapping a small structure such as a uvula (Fig. 4c).
