I read the article describing the serratus plane block [1] and the accompanying editorial [2] with interest. Compartment blocks are generally thought to require relatively large volumes of local anaesthesia to be effective [3]. For example, I use a minimum volume of 20 ml for a transversus abdomin-is plane block in adults, decreasing the concentration if nearing toxic limits because of low body weight. Blanco et al. do not state the final volume of their injectate, but simply describe it as a mixture of 0.4 ml.kg~-1 levobupivacaine 0.125% and 0.1 mmol.kg~-1 gadolinium.
