After a steep drop last session, the American Fastener journal Stock Index came roaring back, bolstered by sturdy increases and little-hampered by a few steep declines. On the world stage, geopolitical tensions in Crimea and Ukraine kept volatility at a steady hum through the session and rearing its head as our trading session ended April 30, 2014. The Commerce Department reported that factory orders improved 1.6 percent in February, the strongest in five months. Weather-related economic data began smoothing out in March, and the Labor Department reported a 0.1 percent decline in the Producer Price Index, driven largely by smaller mark-ups by retailers and an increase in shipping costs.
