On the dynamics of fluid particle breakage induced by hydrodynamic instabilities: A review of modelling approaches

摘要

A review of the models concerning instability of the interface between a fluid particle and continuous phase is provided to assist elucidating the role of particle oscillations and shape deformations in breakage phenomena. There appear to exist two main approaches for a fluid particle instability analysis; one is based on velocity potential and energy balance, and the other one is based on application of normal-mode perturbation analysis in relevant transport equations. The former shows deficiencies in accounting for the effect of viscosity, whereas the latter, although somewhat more difficult to apply, appears to provide more reliable predictions.
