Performance of three cabbage [Brassica oieraceavar. capitate) genotypes in flooding tolerance

Cabbage (Brassica oleracea van capitata), one of the most abundant vegetables, exist a huge market gap in summer production at lowland area in Taiwan. Flooding caused by heavy rainfalls is one of critical obstacles for cabbage summer production. However, flooding tolerance of cabbage cultivars and germplasms is largely unknown. To establish the basis for assessing flooding tolerance in cabbage, we focused on nondestructive quantifiable phenotyping measurements, including leaf injury, regeneration ofnew leaves, recovery time of apical growth, and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). Among tested genotypes, cultivar 'Fuyodori' showed lowest leaf damage among three cultivars. Notably, and '228' shown the highest leaf damage in multiple indexes. Such results suggesting that 'Fuyodori' has higher flooding tolerance and '228' has lower flooding tolerance. Taken together, this study not only assessed flooding tolerance in three cabbage cultivars, but also provides a basis for further mapping loci associated with flooding tolerance.
